One of the students of a Bangladesh Bible Society literacy group is named Irani Sarker. She says, “During the Pakistan period there were not enough opportunities for young girls to continue their studies. I studied up to class four with the help of my grandmother. I wished I could study more but it was not possible for me as a young girl. I got married and led the family at home.
“In 1976 my husband died and after few years my only beloved son also died. It was the greatest pain in my life. Still I can’t forget it. But I found hope from God in the literacy class when I listened to the CDs and read the literacy books. I got much more hope and inspiration from the Bible stories. I learned that God himself is the husband of widows and the father of orphans. I also learned from the story of Job and depend fully on God.
“Now I realise that the Bible is my faithful companion and the light to my path. Now I release my sorrows and pains and try to be firm in him. When I see my son’s face in my mind, immediately I read the Bible and get consolation from there. I am so grateful to the Bible Society for the opportunities to show me the way to God from these literacy classes.”
