I felt my life was over when I found I had HIV. But the Good Samaritan Program has given me hope and a new life.
This quote by Beatrice in Kenya summarises the impact that our Bible-based HIV/AIDS education program – the Good Samaritan Program – is having on hundreds of thousands of people in sub-Saharan Africa each year. Coordinated by our HIV Service in Nairobi since 2005, the program is now running in more than 20 African countries. Through close partnership with local churches, the program is reaching into the hearts of communities, training and equipping local Christians to reach out to those with the virus instead of blaming and rejecting them. As well as tackling stigmatisation, the Good Samaritan Program is also playing an important role in reducing new infections, offering workshops on a wide variety of topics, including sex education, marriage enrichment, gender issues and the dangers of female genital mutilation.
